The American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) announces winner of the 2004 Excellence in Clinical Practice Award

Cherry Hill, New Jersey – April 22, 2004 -- The American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) announces that Sandra Sue Sheets, RN, was the recipient of the 2004 Excellence in Clinical Practice Award, which was presented to her during the opening ceremonies of ASPAN’s 23rd annual National Conference, held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This award recognizes and supports excellence in clinical nursing practice. Ms. Sheets is awarded complimentary registration, airfare and four nights hotel accommodations to ASPAN’s 2005 National Conference as well as a handsome engraved crystal plaque.

As stated by one of her nominators, “Sandy exemplifies a quiet style of leadership characterized by taking on challenges, mastering new areas of knowledge and skills, and mentoring those around her with a positive attitude and little fanfare”.

Ms. Sheets began her career at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, as a nursing student, and is now the Clinical Resource Nurse for pre-op holding and the pre-op assessment center.   Ms. Sheets was instrumental in setting up the first quality assurance program at Saint Luke’s Ambulatory Surgery Center, has had a leadership role in shared governance since its inception, served many years as a unit committee chair for education and practice, and on housewide councils.  Ms. Sheet’s pride in her profession is reflected in her willingness to mentor and preceptor countless numbers of nurses.
