The American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN)
Announces PeriAnesthesia Nurse Awareness Week (PANAW)
Celebrated February 1-7, 2010 throughout the United States

Cherry Hill, New Jersey -- The efforts of the nation's more than 55,000 perianesthesia nurses will be recognized February 1-7, 2010.  PeriAnesthesia Nurse Awareness Week (PANAW) is celebrated annually during the first week of February.

This year’s theme is “Roots of Knowledge, Seeds of Transformation” and the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN), in conjunction with its 40 chartered Components, will acknowledge the tremendous work that perianesthesia nurses do throughout the year.

During PANAW, perianesthesia nurses in hospitals, clinics, and ambulatory surgery centers across the country celebrate their roles as partners in caring – and are encouraged to wear and display official PANAW items to increase the public's awareness of this unique specialty nursing practice. Items may be purchased online at, or by calling 847-963-8100.

ASPAN, through its 40 chartered Components, advances nursing practice through education, research and standards.  This is done in part by developing standards, providing education, encouraging specialization, and promoting public awareness.

The American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses is the international professional specialty organization representing the interest of over 55,000 nurses practicing in preanesthesia and postanesthesia care, ambulatory surgery, pain management and special procedure areas.
