The American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) Announces Appointment of its 2009–2010 National President

Cherry Hill, New Jersey -- The American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) announced at its 28th National Conference (April 19-23, 2009) in National Harbor, MD, that Terry Clifford has transitioned into her role as its national president.

Ms. Clifford, MSN, RN, CPAN, will serve a one-year term as president, and her presidential theme for the year is Roots of Knowledge, Seeds of Transformation. “We can no longer conduct ‘business as usual.’  Our usual assumptions about work and play, teaching and learning, mentoring and leading, are no longer going to sustain us,” said Clifford.  “We are in a world where change happens so fast that now is already then, while new knowledge just exploded globally through the internet.”  Her goal is to guide the board to help transform the organization, and its programs and agendas to offer higher quality services to members.

Ms. Clifford was also honored with the 2009 President’s Award, which is the highest honor that ASPAN can bestow on a member. Prior to her current office, she served as Vice President and Director of Clinical Practice, and was a member of numerous committees serving to fill other vital roles throughout ASPAN.

The American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) is the international professional specialty nursing organization representing the interests of over 57,000 nurses practicing in preanesthesia and postanesthesia care, ambulatory surgery, and pain management.
