Clinical Practice Committee
On a daily basis, perianesthesia nurses from across the world contact ASPAN for help with clinical practice dilemmas. Nearly half of these inquiries relate directly to the ASPAN Standards of Perianesthesia Nursing Practice. Members of the Clinical Practice Committee are assigned weekly questions, and respond in a timely manner to the issues presented using the ASPAN Standards and a variety of other clinical information resources to support professional perianesthesia colleagues. Credentials Ad Hoc Committee
The Credentials team serves each year during the ASPAN National Conference. The team functions include verifying the credentials of Representative Assembly (RA) members, distributing badges to RA members, serving as floor tellers/runners during the all-day RA session, and performing voting related assignments that same day. The Development group promotes public education and obtains funds to support ASPAN educational projects, award scholarships, and evidence based research activities. The major activities of the Development group culminate at National Conference, and these include: the Dream Walk; Silent Auction; a fundraising activity held in the exhibit hall; and collecting/recognizing Hail! Education Approver Committee
The Education Approver Committee reviews continuing education applications received from ASPAN components and other outside organizations which are submitted for approval before presenting an educational seminar, conference or education at a component meeting. The Education Approver Teams utilize the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC-COA) operational requirements to review and approve each application to enable the applicant to provide educational program contact hours. Evidence Based Practice Committee
The Evidence Based Practice Committee serves with the Research Committee. Committee strategic initiatives include: reviewing evidence for clinical practice issues, education issues, research priorities, standards and guidelines. The committee establishes teams to review and rank the available evidence, provides updates on ongoing evidence based practice studies, and works in a collaborative manner with ASPAN’s Education Provider and Clinical Practice Committees. Governmental Affairs Committee
The Governmental Affairs Committee (GAC) informs ASPAN leaders and members regarding federal level healthcare related legislative activities. The GAC chair e-mails legislative information to committee members. The members then contact their respective component governmental affairs liaisons to disseminate new information, and stimulate and guide grassroots member involvement. The GAC encourages ASPAN members to attend the Nurse in Washington Internship (NIWI) program, offered annually by the Nursing Organizations Alliance. Eligible ASPAN members are encouraged to apply for a NIWI scholarship via the ASPAN Scholarship Program. E-mail required.

Membership/Marketing Committee
This committee works closely with the National Office to develop the Member-Get-A -Member Campaign, the annual PeriAnesthesia Nurse Awareness Week (PANAW) campaign celebration, and the ASPAN Logo Shoppe. The committee provides volunteer staffing of the ASPAN Shoppe during National Conference each year. The committee coordinates, reviews and presents the Recruiter of the Year Award, Gold Leaf Component of the Year Award, and ASPAN’s Award for Outstanding Achievement while providing component support to address recruitment, retention, and membership activities information. ASPAN’s Perianesthesia Data Elements (PDE) was launched in 2009. Members will continue development and testing of the outcome/goal statements to include and validate actual terminology "data" used in perianesthesia practice. Perianesthesia Orientation Education SWT
This SWT was created to develop detailed PowerPoint presentations from ASPAN’s Competency Based Orientation and Credentialing Program for the Registered Nurse in the Perianesthesia Setting (CBO). The goal is to develop more comprehensive learning modules for the new PACU nurse, be it new grad or new staff nurse to PACU practice, and will serve as supplements to the CBO.

The Research Committee exists to increase perianesthesia nurses involvement in clinical research through mentoring and education, and facilitates the systematic investigation of nursing research through a grants program. The committee actively promotes the use of research findings in nursing practice through evidence based practice initiatives, and the dissemination of research findings via poster and oral presentations of scientific studies. While working to promote ASPAN research priorities, the Research Committee also networks with other nursing organizations to identify current nursing research issues. E-mail required.

Safety Committee
The Safety Committee exists to promote a comprehensive safety culture for perianesthesia practice. Committee strategic initiatives include: identification of perianesthesia safety priorities; development of a perianesthesia safety resource manual; expansion of perianesthesia safety publications; promotion of a safety section on the ASPAN Web site; and creation of a confidential safety incident reporting database. Standards & Guidelines Committee
Members of the Standards & Guidelines Committee serve as clinical practice surveyors, monitoring current trends in the healthcare environment and their potential impact on perianesthesia nursing practice. Every two years, committee members review, revise, update and amend the ASPAN Standards of Perianesthesia Nursing Practice. Applicants must have previously served on the Clinical Practice Committee.
