This is a comprehensive guide to competency and skill development for perianesthesia nurses. Written by perianesthesia experts, the manual can be used to orient the new perianesthesia nurse, or selected chapters can be used for audited skills and annual updates for the entire perianesthesia nursing staff. The goal is to provide the perianesthesia nurse a framework of essential performance criteria.

These unique performance criteria establish basic competencies needed to practice in diverse perianesthesia practice settings. The chapters are written in easy to use format, with competency statements, criteria, rationale, test questions, references, and tables to check off each nurse when criteria are met.

Chapters include preanesthesia care, postanesthesia care with body systems reviews, airway management, sedation and analgesia, anesthetic agents and adjuncts, fluid management, nausea and vomiting, thermal regulation, age specific competencies, postoperative teaching, medical imaging and interventional procedures care, legal issues and documentation, and transcultural nursing. The pain chapter is expanded, and there are new chapters on critical thinking and evidence based practice.  Approx. 500 pp.  Product Format:  Flashdrive:  each flashdrive contains a full .pdf file of the publication as well as 20 separate chapter .pdf files for easy access by the user - OR Hard Copy:  printed on three-hole paper / shrink-wrapped.
