Upon review of ASPAN’s Strategic Plan and our B.A.G., describe your vision as a national leader to keep the organization current and relevant in the existing healthcare environment to meet the needs of the membership. How will you assure ASPAN is strategically positioned to accomplish our goals and objectives?

The current healthcare environment brings many challenges to perianesthesia nursing.  Nursing shortages, patient safety, multi-generational diversity and orientation and development of perianesthesia experts all offer new opportunities for ASPAN to take a leadership role.  A new dimension for perianesthesia nursing is the global reach of our profession.  ASPAN must take seriously the responsibility of providing education, leadership and evidence based practice across the globe.  To meet these challenges, ASPAN must continue to develop web-based support along with interactive clinical practice guidelines that assist our colleagues with safe and appropriate care of the perianesthesia patient.  Our strategic work teams must continue to provide guidance and leadership to our grassroots members.  The research committee must support new practice and technology that improves delivery of care at the bedside.  We must mentor and develop new perianesthesia nurses into our specialty.  Our strategic plan should be dynamic, always changing direction, guiding our profession into the future.
