Professional Experience:

Kathi is currently the Clinical Nurse Manager of PACU and the Anesthesia Pain Clinic at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA.  Her role combines the opportunity to participate in daily patient care as well as general management of the unit.  Kathi continues to serve on ASPAN committees including Education Approver and Membership/Marketing, and is also a member of the Pediatric Specialty Practice Group.  She is active in her component and holds the office of Finance Director for MASPAN for the second consecutive term.

Upon review of ASPAN’s Strategic Plan and our B.A.G., describe your vision as a national leader to keep the organization current and relevant in the existing health care environment to meet the needs of the membership. How will you ensure ASPAN is strategically positioned to accomplish our goals and objectives?

Perianesthesia nursing is on the front line of the ever-changing state of healthcare reform.  For our patients, we continuously strive to be the leading advocate and spokesperson ensuring high quality, safe and competent care.  Patients have demanded and deserve this – ASPAN has responded as a leader and influential force.  I recognize the need for involvement and commitment, always encouraging and promoting ASPAN to new nurses.  My passion in perianesthesia nursing is fueled by my belief in this strong organization. I will continue to work and communicate with colleagues at various levels elevating our practice and patient care to the highest standard utilizing evidenced based practice and research.  Effective communication must be proactive and ongoing in order to work with components and the National Office in identifying issues and initiating actions to improve patient care.  I will encourage the core values of honesty, truthfulness, and respect in promoting the professionalism of our practice and advocacy for our patients.  This is my passion, this is my belief -- ASPAN is the voice.
