After reviewing ASPAN’s Strategic Plan and our Compelling Vision, describe your vision as a national leader to keep the organization current and relevant in the existing healthcare environment to meet the needs of the membership. How will you assure ASPAN is strategically positioned to accomplish our goals and objectives?
Our healthcare environment is constantly changing, as a result more inexperienced nurses are beginning their careers in Preop and PACU. As a nursing specialty it is important we continue supporting our established perianesthesia professionals as well as encourage and support novice nurses in their professional development. ASPAN’s Practice Standards, Recommendations and Guidelines, orientation guidelines, promoting ongoing research and evidence-based practice and leadership/mentoring are resources necessary for successful orientation and mastery of perianesthesia practice. Engagement and collaboration are essential in fostering professional development and organizational growth. Leading by example, we must continue advancement of our society with consideration to diverse aspects impacting the needs and desires of our collective membership and future leaders in perianesthesia practice. It is imperative we embrace the changes required, utilizing innovative ideas in promoting our core purpose “To empower and advance the unique specialty of perianesthesia nursing.”
