EBP is at the intersection of research, education, and clinical practice (see ASPAN’s EBP Model), and critical appraisal is the third step of EBP. Using the appropriate ASPAN critical appraisal tool for the evidence being appraised ensures standardized criteria of what counts as high quality and it is through the process of appraisal when one determines if a given piece of evidence is considered to be high quality.
