My organization is attempting to develop policy language around allowing ADA Service Animals in Pre/Post spaces. We have some infection prevention concerns with service animals in Pre/Post spaces, as there would always be the potential for the patient or OR staff to accidentally transport animal hair, dander, etc. into sterile OR spaces. Specifically, we are wondering if an industry standard exists for how to handle ADA Service Animals in Pre/Post spaces? We would also appreciate feedback regarding the way other organizations handle this issue. Thank you! Rachel Christian, RN, BSN, CAPA Perioperative & Procedural Clinical Nurse Specialist Intern
