Q: Is there a statement on patients that bypass Phase I? What are the criteria?
A: The process of fast-tracking refers to assessing the patient in the OR at the end of anesthesia to see if they meet discharge criteria from Phase 1. This patient would be awake or easily rousable, stable airway, hemodynamically stable, minimal nausea, stable surgical site and pain managed. The ability to fast-track a patient is also based on a facility’s department of anesthesia standards of care.
Q: Our facility has told us that the pre-op RNs are going to give moderate sedation in the OR for our eye cases. We have not had any training in moderate sedation. Should we be concerned?
