ASPAN Reorganization

One Voice. One Vision. Better Care.

ASPAN is exploring a transition from 40 Components to 11 Regions to better support members nationwide. While change can feel challenging, this proposal is designed to strengthen what’s working today and create a more sustainable future for our profession and the patients we serve. This change isn’t about leaving something behind, it’s about building something greater, together, for the future of our patients.

What this means for the membership:

  • More consistent programming and member benefits
  • Stronger peer connections and networking
  • Clearer communication about professional opportunities
  • Increased staff support for volunteer leaders

For more than 40 years, ASPAN has led the advancement of perianesthesia nursing, and we accomplish this by bringing the community together. As the profession evolves, especially post-COVID, many components have experienced challenges with volunteer recruitment, leadership development, and sustainability. In response, ASPAN partnered with an external consulting firm and convened a Strategic Work Team to gather member feedback, review best practices, and develop thoughtful recommendations.

Guided by input from component leaders, members, and key stakeholders, this plan aims to strengthen support for every perianesthesia nurse and enhance the care provided to patients. Together, as one unified community, our specialty grows stronger and our impact reaches further.
