Hello! We are being asked to remove curtains in our PACU. We have not as yet been given the "why". Is there research or an ASPAN statement regarding curtains or no curtains in the PACU? The leader who is mandating this states it is the standard in many PACU's in the country. Would love to hear more. Kim Missal RN BSN CPAN

Do they plan to have something else in place? It would seem to be a HIPPA violation and the patient's would have a complete lack of privacy. This is addressed in the standards in the responsibility to the patients: "maintains patient confidentiality, dignity, and privacy" (pg 15). This is also addressed on page 37: "Safeguards are in place to protect patient's privacy and personal health information". On page 65 in equipment for the PACU : "means to ensure patient privacy".
As I questioned above, I would wonder what they would implement to ensure patient confidentiality.

In my practice they are looking for a wipeable surface. In my facility we purchased silentia curtains. In my former employee we had to create a schedule with our environmental services to create a schedule in which the curtains had to be laundered. Hope this helps.
