In Memory of Patricia “Pat” Brockway, BSN, RN
1944 -2026
Pat Brockway passed away in May. A friend and mentor to many, she held a meaningful place in ASPAN history. A dedicated member, leader, and ASPAN Representative for CBSPAN in Maryland, she served as ASPAN National Treasurer from 1991 to 1995, offering steady leadership and a deep love for the organization.
When her husband, was transferred to Hawaii just as she began her ASPAN Treasurer term, Pat embraced the move as an adventure. From a new home and new perianesthesia job, she faithfully supported ASPAN across a five- to six-hour time difference—perhaps even crunching numbers by the beach.
Pat was back in Maryland in 1994, when as Treasurer she helped guide ASPAN through a serious financial loss caused by the Financial Comptroller of Phenix Management. With diligence and calm determination, she helped preserve records and remaining funds, restore stability, and strengthen the foundation that supports ASPAN financially today.
Pat later returned to Hawaii as co-chair, with Past President Dolly Ireland, for the 1999 ASPAN National Conference in Honolulu. Filled with Aloha spirit of hula dancers, luau food, beaches, drinks with umbrellas, the great conference reflected their warmth, energy, and joy in bringing people together.
A certified nurse in ICU, CCU, and PACU, Pat also served as “Nurse Pat” in her school, church and communities, sharing her skill, compassion, and beautiful smile. A lifelong learner she earned her BSN in Kailua, Hawaii. She traveled to all seven continents and 43 states, and cherished her husband, three daughters, and many grandchildren. She had many friends in ASPAN. Though her memory faded later in life, we remember Pat smiling by the ocean she loved and honoring the vibrant leader whose service and spirit left a lasting legacy for ASPAN.
