ASPAN Reorganization
One Voice. One Vision. Better Care.
Work on ASPAN’s national reorganization initiative continues to move forward as we prepare to bring the current 40 Components together into 10 Regions. The goal is to create stronger, more sustainable structures that improve access to education, connect members with colleagues across a broader area, expand volunteer and leadership opportunities, and advance the specialty of Perianesthesia nursing.
Much of the current work is preparing the foundation for these new Regions. Component leaders have provided records about their organizations, finances, and operations. ASPAN and legal counsel are reviewing this information to determine how the Components in each Region can come together and establish a regional organization that supports its members.
Each Region has different circumstances and applicable state requirements, so Regions will be established on individual timelines. Members may hear about progress in another Region before similar steps begin in their own. This variation is expected. As the next steps are identified, ASPAN will hold calls with leaders from individual Regions to discuss the transition and plan how their new Region will be established. The target remains to launch the new Regions in summer 2027.
Whether you are learning about the reorganization initiative for the first time or following its progress, resources are available on the reorganization webpage. The Roadmap At-a-Glance shows the six phases of the transition, while the Roadmap Guide explains what happens during each phase and who is involved. Frequently asked questions provide additional information about the initiative and what members can expect. These resources will be updated as planning progresses and more information becomes available.
In the meantime, members should continue participating in ASPAN and Component activities as usual. Components will continue supporting members throughout the transition. Please watch for communications from your Component leaders about activities and developments specific to your area.
Updates will continue to be shared through the reorganization webpage and newsletter as the initiative advances. If you have questions regarding the reorganization initiative, please contact the ASPAN National Office.
